Malaysia 2009 - Unique Birds

Pos Malaysia released its first stamp issue for 2009 (unique birds) on January 21, 2009. Three stamps (one design for 30 sen two designs for 50 sen) and a miniature sheet (RM5) were issued. These stamps and miniature sheet are definately gorgeous, and they are the art work of Teh Yew Kiang. One thing which attracts my attention is the miniature sheet. Two species of hornbills are depicted in the miniature sheet - whrethed hornbill and plain-pouched hornbill. For the very first time, these two hornbill species are being depicted in stamps of Malaysia. The plain-pouched hornbill is particularly interesting because, for Malaysia, it has only been recorded in Royal Belum and Temenggor. You may click here to check up other hornbill stamps issued by Malaysia postal authority.

Malaysian Peacock-Pheasant (Polyplectron malacense)

Milky Stork (Mycteria cinerea)

Malaysian Whistling Thrush (Myophonus robinsoni)

Wreathed Hornbill (Aceros undulatus) and Plain-Pouched Hornbill (Aceros subruficollis)

PS:
The miniature sheet appears to have a major error - the word of Malaysia is not printed on the stamp area of the miniature sheet. The error seems to have violated the UPU rule. I have learnt that Pos Malaysia has withdrawn the sale of the minature sheet since February 3, 2009.

Agro-Based Product State Definitive - Wilayah Persekutuan 10 sen

The serial number of Agro-Based Product state definitive stamp for Wilayah Persekutuan 10 sen is now 2008/1. One is just wondering what has happened to the garden flower state definitives released on December 31, 2007. The reluctance of Pos Malaysia to "reprint" the garden flower state definitives makes one confused if the garden flower stamps are really definitives.

Special Surface Mail Label

I was told that this surface mail (by sea) label has been in use since early of year 2008. This label is for mail from Sabah/Sarawak to Peninsular Malaysia or vise versa. International mail also uses this label. The airmail label from this series came out the same time as this surface mail label, which also applies on international mail and mail from Sabah/Sarawak to Peninsular Malaysia or vise versa.

Malaysia Stamp Issues for 2009

Finally, Pos Malaysia released its stamp issuing plan for year 2009 today. A total of 15 issues have been proposed for year 2009. The first issue will be on topic of bird. It is definately a popular issue. The issue on World Heritage Sites (April) is another interesting issue. It is postulated that the latest WHS of Malaysia (Penang and Melaka) will be depicted in the issue. I'm quite anticipating the issue on Conservation of Environment (June). I hope this issue will raise public awareness on the environmental issues. The issue on State Definitive Stamp Series Collection is weird. I was learnt that the state definitive stamps released on 31 December, 2007 will be re-issued in sheetlet format (six denominations are printed in a sheetlet for each state, meaning that 14 sheetlets will be issued!). The stamp week issue (October) is also interesting. This year topic is on spiders. This will be the first time for Pos Malaysia to release stamps on spiders. The issue plan ends with Malaysia-Iran Joint issue. This issue is actually brought forward from year 2008. I am not sure the reason(s) for this joint issue being postponed in 2008. Below is the stamp issue plan 2009 from Pos Malaysia. Be warned that this stamp plan is tentative, and Pos Malaysia is notorious known for altering the issue dates or even issues last minute. I shall update the stamp plan from time to time. Please visit to this entry frequently to check up any amendments.

Special Airmail Label

Have you seen this airmail label from Pos Malaysia? The size of the label is 10.45 x 8.15 cm with an old Pos Malaysia logo printed at the bottom left corner. It is a self adhesive label. I think this is the most beautiful airmail label produced by postal authority of Malaysia so far. I first came across this airmail label in December 2008 which was on the mail sent from Sarawak to Peninsular Malaysia. The second time I came across this airmail label was in January 2009 on the mail sent from Sabah to Peninsular Malaysia. It looks like this airmail label is used for domestic mail from Sarawak/Sabah to Peninsular Malaysia. However, I am not sure if it is also used for international mail.

Sg Petani is a town located at the northern part of Kedah. There is a mail centre in Sg Petani. It looks like the mail centre has two cancellation mechines with number 01 and 02. It is most likely that the mechine 01 is used to process normal mail, and the mechine 02 is for prepaid mail.

Slogan Postmark - Inverted

I wrote about a greeting slogan postmark sometime ago. I'm going to show you the same slogan postmark below. It is unique because the slogan postmark is inverted againt the datestamp.

Apart from the two cancellation machine (one-circle Kuala Lumpur 03 and two-circle Kuala Lumpur 03), this is the third cancellation mechine (Kuala Lumpur 12) from Kuala Lumpur Mail Centre to have this slogan postmark. This cancellation machine seems to process large size envelops.
