Perforation and Watermark Varieties - Quails and Partridges 2001 - Revisit

I wrote some time ago about the challenging task on figuring out the number of varieties (watermark and perforation) for the stamp issue of Quials and Partridges released on January 22, 2001. You may click here to read the old entry. Until today, the number of varieties for these Quials and Partridges still remains uncertain. However, I am updating the varieties that I have in my collection. All this while, the watermark recorded for these stamps is SPM sideway down. However, someone told me that SPM sideway up watermark has been recorded for the denomination 30s. I am not sure how true is this information.

Collecting Stamp Sheets

The printing number of current stamps by Pos Malaysia is roughly 200,000-400,000 per single stamp design, and the current stamps are normally printed in sheet-of-20. This may imply that 10,000-20,000 stamp sheets are produced for each stamp design.
This number is definitely small for stamp sheets. At least half of the number of sheets produced would be ended up in FDCs, and many sheets would be torn into formats of single, pair or block kept in the albums of many stamp collectors. So, the number of stamp sheets survived is definitely very small. Collecting stamp sheets is surely a very interesting way of pursuing stamp collecting in Malaysia. Actually, Pos Malaysia started to produce stamps in format of small stamp sheets in 2000. At the beginning a stamp sheet normally contained 25 stamps. However, the number of stamps for a sheet has been reduced to 20 since year 2002. Below are the stamp sheets of Batam stamp released in year 2001. The stamp sheets contain 25 stamps. The stamps in format of sheet look very attractive, don't they? Have you thought of collecting Malaysia recent stamps in format of sheet?

One of the most challenging issues on collecting perforation and watermark varieties is the stamp issue of Quials and Partridges released on January 22, 2001. I still have not been able to figure out how many types of perforation and watermark for each of the three denominations. SG catalogue does not seem to be helpful as it is still in the middle of figuring out the actual number of varieties. I am listing below those perforation and watermark varieties that possessed by me (I think I have spare copies for these varieties). I am very happy to exchange with anyone for those varieties not in my collection.

Perforation Variety - Beads of Sarawak 2001

On Feberuary 17, 2001, Pos Malaysia released a set of four stamps on topic of Beads of Sarawak and Sabah. The stamps were printed in a format block-of-4 with 100 stamps forming a sheet. Two types of perforation were recorded - P13.5 (to be precise P13.75x13.5) and P14x14.5 (to be precise P14.25x14.75). I have got no idea which one is less common, but SG catalogue gives P13.5 a higher price.

Malaysia - Quails and Partridges

One of the favourite topics on Malaysian modern stamps is bird. Among the many bird stamp sets released by Malaysia postal authority, I particularly fancy the stamp set on quails and partridges issued on 22 January, 2001. The stamp set consisted of three denominations (30 sen, 50 sen and RM1) and a miniature sheet containing two stamps (two designs of RM2). This stamp set was designed by Mr. Teh Yew Kiang, a well-known artist on subject of birds. The artworks on birds of Mr. Teh are so fine and vivid. I have to agree that this stamp set is one of the most beautiful sets released by Malaysia postal authority.
