Aga Khan Stamp Sheet

This Aga Khan stamp was released in 2007. It is one of the "expensive" recent modern Malaysia stamps. Aga Khan stamp sheet is more expensive (a 20-stamp sheet is more expensive than 20 pieces of single stamp). Of course, it is more beautiful in a format of 20-stamp sheet. :)

Grumbling..........

Pos Malaysia released a set of insect stamps and a miniature sheet on July 7, 2007. The miniature sheet was later overprinted for stamp exhibition Bangkok 2007. I was understood that 10,000 copies of overprinted miniature sheet were printed. This number of printing is normal for almost all the overprinted miniature sheets since year 2005. Pos Malaysia brought all the 10,000 copies of this miniature sheet to Bangkok 2007 for sale. Unexpectedly, it was all sold out during the stamp exhibition leaving none for home collectors (no sale at Philatelic Unit at home). So, this overprinted miniature sheet becomes a hot item. A hot item is not neccessary a rare item. This Bangkok 2007 overprinted miniature sheet is nowhere near rare, but it is selling as high as USD80 in eBay or some internet sites. I think the price (up to USD80) is crazy. However, at home in Malaysia the market price is said RM70 per copy. I was lucky to get it from a friend at RM20 in 2008.

Frog Stamps of Malaysia

Finally the stamp issue on frogs came out on 3 May 2007. It had been long due issue, honestly. The frog issue was proposed by Pos Malaysia in 2005, but was postponed then. In 2006 the frog issue re-appeared in the stamp issuing plan. Unfortunately, it did not materialize in 2006.

In this frog issue, three stamps (30s and 2 x 50s) and one miniature sheet (RM1) were released. They all look thrilling! The frog species portrayed in the stamps are Pedostibes hosii (30s), Nyctixalus pictus (50s) and Megophrys nasuta (50s) while the miniature sheet contains two frog species, i.e. Rana laterimaculata (in stamp) and Rhacophorus nigropalmatus (at border). Two types of perforation (P12 and P13.5) have been recorded on all the three stamps. Some philatelists have also recorded misaligned perforation for stamp sheet, particularly the stamp with value 30s. It is said that the frog issue may contain high number of perforation flaw. So, it is good a “treasure hunting” for philatelists.







The stamps are cute as many (philatelists or non-philatelists) have commented. I personally quite love them. They definitely will cheer up the stamp albums if they are placed in the albums.
