Premier School - 50s SMK Convent Bukit Nenas

The 50s SMK Convent Bukit Nenas stamp comes with two different watermark varieties - SPM sideway up (swu) and SPM sideway down (swd). The swd is less common than the swu. You may contact me, if you are interested in the swd variety. :)

2008 - Seashells

Pos Malaysia released a new stamp issue on topic of seashells today. The issue contains four stamp designs (two each for 30 sen and 50 sen) and a miniature sheet (RM2). The size of the stamp is rather small (25.5 x 22 mm), and the size of the miniature sheet is also in the range of small size (90 x 60 mm). In general, the design of the stamps and miniature sheet is beautiful. This is the first time for Malaysia postal authority to issue stamps on topic of seashells.

2008 - Butterfly MS Overprint

FIAP Stamp Exhibition of year 2008 was held in Jakarta, Indonesia on 23-28 October, 2008. Pos Malaysia released an overprint miniature sheet (MS) in conjuction with the event. The MS used in the overprint is from the butterfly issue released early of this year. The logo of the exhibition was printed on the area of the stamp. Therefore, this MS overprint is a bit different from those produced in the pass few years that the logo was normally printed on the stamp boarder of the MS.

2008 - National Angkasawan Programme

Pos Malaysia released a set of stamps and a miniature sheet on 21 October, 2008 on title of National Angkasawan Programme. The stamps come in three designs with denominations 30 sen and 50 sen while the miniature sheet contains two stamps with denomination RM1 for each stamp. What is "Angkasawan"? If literately translated, "Angkasawan" means astronaut. So, after all, Pos Malaysia issued this set of stamps to commemorate/publicize the national astronaut programme...... not really space programme........... The issue of "space" programme of Malaysia has been controversial.......... Nevetheless, the stamp set and miniature sheet of this issue are nice, and they are good for thematic collectors on topic of space.

The National Art Gallery of Malaysia (Balai Seni Lukis Negara) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Pos Malaysia released a set of three stamps on 28 August, 2008 to commemorate the event. The stamps portray some of the art work kept in the gallery. Among the three different art work in the stamps, I think I like "Fruit Season" by Chuah Thean Teng painted on batik.

Spirit of Ledang by Syed Ahmad Jamal (2003); painted using acrylic on canvas

Fruit Season by Chuah Thean Teng (1968); painted on batik

2008 - Golden Jubilee of the Reigh of Sultan Kedah

Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah was installed as the Sultan of Kedah in 1958. His Royal Highness is celebrating the golden jubilee of the coronation in 2008. Pos Malaysia released a set of three stamps to commemorate the event on 15 July, 2008. They are 30 sen stamp depicting the Gunung Jerai and the paddy field of the foot of Gunung Jerai; 50 sen stamp portraying the old office of the State Secretary of the Kedah Government; and RM1 stamp showing the town view of Alor Setar.

The stamps were printed in the format of 22 stamps per sheetlet. This is an uncommon format as commemorative stamps have been normally printed in sheetlet of 20 stamps for the past six years. The use of different pin-hole machines on the same sheetlet of this issue had created stamps with three types of perforation: P12, P13.5 and P13.5 but P12 at bottom. The number of stamps of these different perforations is not even. For each sheetlet, two stamps will have perforation P13.5 but P12 at bottom, four stamps with perforation P13.5 and 16 stamps with perforation P12.

It is also noted that Pos Malaysia has a new logo. The Pos Malaysia logo was printed on the bottom margin of the sheetlet. The new logo indeed looks better than the old one. The old logo can be viewed at http://kajang-stamps.blogspot.com/2008/03/2008-nocturnal-animals.html. I'm not sure since when the new logo has been officially in use.

2008 - Cultural Artefacts -- Series II

The fifth stamp issue of Malaysia for year 2008 came out on 10 June, 2008. The issue is on the topic of cultural artefacts. This is the second series of this topic. The first series was released on 11 June, 2001. The image of the first series can be viewed at the following link:
http://www.geocities.com/pasilla98/msia2001/0106.html

Back to this second series cultural artefact stamps, three stamps were issued - 30 sen showing stone grinder, 50 sen showing supu and another 50 sen (triangular shape) showing coconut grater. The triangular stamp is particularly beautiful. The last time Malaysia postal authority issued triangular stamps was in 1966!
