Malaysia-Korea Joint Issue

Pos Malaysia and Korea Post jointly released a stamp issue on February 23, 2010. The stamp issue is also in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Malaysia-Korea Diplomatic Relations. Two similar stamps were released for each country. One stamp with image of Malayan tiger and the other with image of Korean (Siberian) tiger. Showing below is the stamp set from Korea Post. You may view the stamp set from Pos Malaysia here. The Malaysian stamps are more simple in design without the wording on the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Malaysia-Korea Diplomatic Relations. Honestly, I find the design of Malaysia stamps is much better than that of the Korean ones. What do you think?

Malaysia 2010 - Local Markets

Pos Malaysia released a set of four stamps and two miniature sheets on topic of local markets on March 23, 2010. The four stamps are printed in format of two setanat pairs with denominations of 30 sen and 50 sen. On the other hand, the two miniature sheets contain two stamps (denominations RM1 and RM2) each. The 30-sen stamps portray Pasar Siti Kahdijah in Kota Bharu, Kelantan; and the 50-sen stamps depict Pasar Kraftangan in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The first miniature sheet portray Pekan Rabu in Alor Setar, Kedah; and the second miniature sheet depict Pasar Minggu Satok in Kuching, Sarawak.

Honestly, the design of this stamp issue is beautiful. The only thing I dislike is the colour border of the stamps and miniature sheets. I personally think that the stamps and miniature sheets would be more appealing if the border is white colour.

This stamp really kills many birds with just one stone...... hehehehehehehe

Domestic Cover from Johor

I have been hunting for nice and clear postmark from Kluang, Johor for quite some time, maybe more than two years. All this while the postmark (machine cancellation) from Kluang was unclear. However, this time I've got a clear postmarked cover from Kluang, and the stamps used on the cover are Johor garden flower definitive stamps. I just love this cover...... it makes me happy..... hehehehehehehe

PSM Stamp Fair

Philatelic Society Malaysia (PSM) is having a stamp fair on March 20-21, 2010 at MPPJ Community Library. I took my time off to visit to the stamp fair to catch up with some fellow collectors. I also bought some Agro-Based definitive stamp varieties and plate numbers from the stamp dealer Mr. Muthu. Pos Malaysia has a counter at the stamp fair. There was a colouring competitation for children as well.

This is Really Ugly.........

I have heard frequently the praise of beautiful Malaysia stamps. The praise comes from local and also overseas collectors. Well, it is undeniable that Malaysia stamps generally are beautiful in design compared to many countries. However, Pos Malaysia did produce very ugly stamps/miniature sheets! One of the stamps that I definately would vote as the ugliest stamp design ever produced by Pos Malaysia is the Beaches and Islands miniature sheet issued on July 31, 2002. It really makes my eyes sore by looking at it! The miniature sheet tries to depict two different beaches of Malaysia - Batu Ferringhi beach (in Penang) and Port Dickson beach (in Negeri Sembilan). The image of the miniature sheet looks like a kid drawing.... and if I were the art teacher for the kid (if it is a really a kid drawing), I would definitely fail the kid! I really couldn't understand how the stamp design could be approved by Pos Malaysia! The stamp design committee of Pos Malaysia must be mad!

Tiger Stamps.......... Popular!?

The tiger stamps issued on February 23, 2010 inded are beautiful. The stamps were sold out in many post offices (even the GPO Kuala Lumpur) within three weeks time after the date of issue. To be honest, I was really attracted by the stamps when I first saw it during the press conference of the stamp issue in GPO KL. Down in my heart I knew this stamp set was going to be a hot issue.

Anyway, this is not the first time for the postal authority of Malaysia to issue tiger stamps. In those old days (Malaya and Federal Malaya), tiger was always a subject for stamp design. For modern stamps of Malaysia, stamps on tiger had appeared on two occasions in years 1979 and 2004. On January 4, 1979, a set of eight definitive stamps were issued, and one of the stamps (30c) depicts tiger.

The other tiger stamp was issued on June 14, 2004 on topic "Wildlife of Malaysia Forest". Two setenant stamps were issued, and one of the stamps (RM1) has image of tiger.

Malaysia 2010 - Ferns

Pos Malaysia released a set of five stamps and a miniature sheet on topic of ferns on March 10, 2010. The five stamps with denomination of 50 sen each are printed in a format of horizontal strip of five. The fern species depicted in the stamps are Helminthostachys zeylanica, Stenochlaena palustris, Platycerium coronarium, Dicranopteris linearis and Diplazium esculentum. On the other hand, the miniature sheet has a denomination of RM3 depicting three fern species i.e. Asplenium nidus, Matonia pectinata and Dipteris conjugata. These ferns are medicinal and ornamental values. The design of the stamps is not too bad. However, I personally think that the miniature sheet would be much better if it were made into three different stamps with denomination RM1 each for each of the three fern species.

Guernsey - 3D Stamps

Guernsey postal authority issued a set of two stamps on May 9, 1995. These stamps have hidden 3 dimension images (3D images). Could you see what are the hidden images in the stamps? I am not sure if any other countries also have issued 3D stamps. This is defintive a very innovative way of issuing stamps.....

Great Britain - Flaw

Great Britain issued a set of five stamps to commemorate Prince William on June 17, 2003. I found a flaw on one of the stamps with value "E". The flaw is a big dot on the nose of Prince William..... with the big dot, Prince William looks ugly!

left stamp is normal; right stamp with a flaw of big dot on the nose of Prince William

Personalised Stamp - 1-Malaysia

Pos Malaysia released one new personalised stamp on February 4, 2010. The new personalised stamp is on topic of 1-Malaysia. The stamp is quite similar to one of the earlier 1-Malaysia stamps issued on August 31, 2009. I was learnt that the new personalised was popular, and it was sold out within two weeks after the release. I think it is mainly due to the price of the new personalised stamp. The new personalised stamp sheet (containing 20 pieces of 30-sen-stamp) was sold at a price of RM6 (the face value). In contrast, the other earlier personalised stamp sheet (still available at time of writing this entry) is sold at price of RM19. I heard that Pos Malaysia is planning to reprint this new 1-Malaysia personalised stamp, but the selling price would most likely be RM19 per stamp sheet.

I think the portrait on the right side of the personalised is gorgeous. Don't you think so...... heheheheehehe
