Kebaya Stamp Sheet - Two Types

If you are into stamp sheet collecting, you may need to pay attention to the two types of Kebaya stamp sheets due to the perforation patterns (see images below). It looks like these perforation patterns exist in the 50s stamp sheets only, not the 30s stamp sheets.

Ceriagrion cerinorubellum
Ceriagrion cerinorubellum is one of the very common damselfly species in Malaysia. It is normally found at lakes, ponds and marshes. The male and female individuals are similar in colour marking. The stamp shows a mating pair of Ceriagrion cerinorubellum.

Right Hand or Left Hand?

You may have seen retour covers. Some of the retour covers are stamped with a hand sign or stuck with a sticker depicting a hand. How many of you have paid attention to the hand sign? Is the right hand or left hand being depicted? Well, I notice that most of the postal authorities worldwide use right hand sign. I show below two retour covers with hand sign. The retour cover from Taiwan has right hand sign, and the retour cover from New Zealand has left hand sign.

Special Cover - Agongs

Pos Malaysia released a special edition stamp sheetlet depicting the pass and present Agongs of Malaysia on 21 June 2012. However, no FDC and special postmark/cancellation were provided by Pos Malaysia on this release. I made a special cover for the stamps using the souvenir covers from the Agong issue (released on 11 April 2012), and then applied circular dater (dated on 21 June 2012) on them.

Woodpecker Issue - When Was it Printed?

The image below shows a quality control label produced by Printer SPM (Pencetakan Keselamatan Nasional). The label was used in packing the Woodpecker 60s stamp-sheet (the stamp issue was released on 13 January 2013). So, the label says the packing was done on 29 November 2012, meaning that the Woodpecker stamps had been printed before 29 November 2012....

Result of Poll - Most Favourite Stamp Issues for 2012

After almost one month of vote casting for the most favourite stamp issues for year 2012, the poll had finally come to an end. A total of 54 times of vote casting were recorded. Here is the result:

2013 - Woodpeckers

Pos Malaysia released yesterday (13 January 2013; Sunday) its first stamp issue (Woodpeckers) for year 2013. However, most post offices nationwide sold the stamps on 14 January 2013. Three different stamps and a miniature sheet depicting different woodpecker species were released. To be honest, the stamps and miniature sheet are nicely designed. The only thing I don't feel good enough is the colour of the stamps and miniature sheet not saturated enough, making the stamps and miniature sheet look a bit dull.

Surprisingly, this stamp issue did not attract much crowd in post offices nationwide today. Maybe, most small time collectors (and also non-collectors) are waiting for the coming stamp issue in conjunction of Year of Snake (not really a zodiac stamp issue).

Dragon Overprint MS - Gold Foil Shifted

Gold foil stamping shift is a quite common feature for stamp or miniature sheet using this special effect of printing. I showed the RM5-dragon MS with gold foil stamping shift in an earlier post. You may click here to read the post. I show below here the gold foil stamping shift for RM5-dragon overprint MS. This shift in the RM5-dragon overprint MS is similar to that of the RM5-dragon MS

the left MS has gold foil stamping shifted left; the right MS has gold foil stamping shifted right

Below are the enlargements of a small part of the MS showing the shift.

Dragon MS - Gold Foil Shifted

The RM5-sragon MS has gold foil stamping. It seems that the gold foil stamping could shift from right to left. Here are two RM5-dragon MS samples that in my collection showing extreme right and extreme left shifts of the gold foil stamping. I wouldn't be surprised if someone might have recorded even more extreme shift of this gold foil stamping.

Retrospection of 2012

Year 2012 had been a difficult year for me. I'd almost wanted to quit stamp collecting. You may notice that there wasn't any entry on this blog for a period of six months - from early of March until end of August 2012. Nevertheless, at the end I didn't quit - the philatelic blood refuses to stop flowing in my body :)

Anyway, I hardly to show my face in most of the philatelic events or gatherings nowadays. I think it is ok, and I still communicate with my philatelic friends through internet - online forum, email, facebook and blog.
