The 2012 Royal Visit Sheetlets

The Royal Visit stamp issue was released on 13 September 2012. On the day of issue, all the stamp sheetlets were torn (the gutter between the stamps in sheetlet was removed) before the stamps were sold at the postal counters nationwide (with a few exceptions). Many stamp collectors (those collect stamp sheets) were furious on this unexpected act of tearing stamp sheetlets by Pos Malaysia.

Actually, there were two versions of sheetlets being printed for this issue, and both the versions were available on the day of issue. The first version sheetlet with wordings "Lawatan Diraja (Putera William & Kate) was being torn the gutter in most post offices nationwide; the second version sheetlet with wordings "Lawatan Diraja/Royal Visit" was only sold at GPO KL on the day of issue (limiting three sheetlets per customer). Those SODA members and dealers ordering sheetlet were provided the second version sheetlet.

I was made to understand that there was no reprint on the sheetlet. The printing quantity of sheetlet remains the same as planned. The Printer was in the middle of printing the sheetlet (first version), and Pos Malaysia directed the Printer to stop printing immediately until a corrected wording plate was provided. The Printer only continued printing the balance quantity (second version) after receiving corrected wording plate.

The sheetlet has become a hot item, and everyone was looking for it. Pos Malaysia did not have enough sheetlets (second version) to supply to post offices nationwide. The first version sheetlet is now become an "rare" item, and the second version sheetlet is on high demand. What a mess done by Pos Malaysia.....
