Pitcher Plants - Indonesia 2007

Among the many flora stamps, stamps depicting pitcher plants (Nepenthes sp.) are one of the most fascinating flora stamps. Belonging to family Nepentheceae, pitcher plants are carnivorous and have limited distribution in South-East Asia region with westwards to Madagascar and southwards to northern part of Australia. Many countries have released stamps with topic of pitcher plants such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Laos, Singapore, India, Seychelles, Madagascar, Palau etc.

Recently, I obtained some pitcher plant stamps of Indonesia, and I just love them. The stamps were released to commemorate the 20th Asian International Stamp Exhibition in Bangkok on August 3-12, 2007. Two species of pitcher plants are depicted in the stamps - Nepenthes mirabilis and Nepenthes ampullaria. Both the species could be found in Malaysia as well.
